My story
Once upon a time, I went to Cal Poly to study Graphic Design. I met my wife there, although she didn’t know who she was at the time. After I graduated, I worked at a local startup magazine (Central Coast Sport Magazine), then at New Times, then at Zoo Med Labs as an in-house designer. By that time my wife and I – she realized who she was by this point – we got married, got some cats, and bought a house. It was all very storybook, except for the white picket fence. Ours was brown.
When we added to our family, and upgraded from cats to kids, we wanted to be there. Turns out kids need a bit more care than cats. So we played rock-paper-scissors, flipped a coin, drew straws, and I ended up quitting my job and staying home with our first little daughter. I’ve been self-employed ever since. For several years I partnered with my dad and worked with clients in Durango, Colorado. I’ve also worked with many local clients on a variety of projects.
I work with Adobe Creative Cloud software on a Mac. I have lots of experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. I’ve crafted approximately a bazillion pdf files for print or online distribution. I previously used Dreamweaver for websites, but nowadays I like to use WordPress and the Genesis Framework. I don’t do much hand-coding, but I can work with HTML, PHP, Javascript and CSS enough to make customizations. I’m mostly self-taught in all this, so I’m comfortable taking on new challenges and figuring them out. Somewhat comfortable, anyway. I’d rather feel like an expert, but figuring things out comes first.
99.9% Perfectionist
I have a strong work ethic, and enjoy doing good work. I take pride in my eye for detail and I have a knack for catching problems before they leave my hands – finding and fixing typos instead of making them, and making sure things print correctly at the press (or look optimized online). I have experience with a busy workflow, multiple projects, and deadlines.
Plays well with others
I have an accommodating personality, and I’m pretty good at getting along with just about everybody. I’d much rather work together than make waves.
Extraordinarily humble
This is the most I have talked about myself, probably ever.
